ABOUT THE PLAY

The monodrama “Land of Wolves” is an original text by Tonka Mršić and Gala Nikolić. It echoes as a dark comedy with elements of absurdity and was born out of the need to question what it means to be a woman in a small community like Lika. What does it mean to be a woman in Croatia?

The play explores social norms, primarily those of Lika or any other small community, which impact the destinies of three women in different stages of life.

Through three distinct characters, the authors address our patriarchal society, traditionalism, the position of women in marriage, choices, solitude, the consequences of war, and the impossibility for individuals to break free from the chains of the phrase “What will people say?”

The play is imbued with autobiographical elements.

“Land of Wolves” seems to have given Lika a contemporary female voice after Damir Karakaš.” –  journalist Kim Cuculić for Novi List.

She has wild red hair, despises war, and above all, she would love to become a fairy for a day.

“It’s tough when you’re from a small place. Much is expected of you.”
