Kazalište Ulysses, in collaboration with the Sarajevo War Theatre (SARTR) and realstage, will this season premiere the drama by the celebrated British playwright and screenwriter Ronald Harwood, “Taking Sides”, directed by Lenka Udovički.

Harwood has been writing since the early 1960s, and achieved his first major success with the play “The Dresser”. He gained worldwide fame with his screenplay for “The Pianist”, for which he received the Academy Award in 2002.

“Taking Sides” is a drama about the de-Nazification of the celebrated conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic, Wilhelm Furtwängler, who maintained that art was separate from politics, and American Major Steve Arnold, who accuses him of collaboration with the Nazi regime. The drama explores the moral responsibility of the artist, the difference between survival and collaboration, and the impossibility of complete neutrality under a totalitarian regime.
