The dramatic structure of the theatre play “My Husband” is a product of two intertwined materials: the dramatisation of six short stories (Soup, Empty Nest, Adulterer, March 8th, Geni and Lile) and documentary material created from authorial monologues. The dramatic plot of Rumena Bužarovska’s short stories, as well as the documentary part (author’s monologues), are thematically closely linked to the environment and time in which they unfold, without grounding in daily political events. The short stories and author’s monologues are created with the aim of overcoming stereotypes and prejudices, openly insisting on confronting traditional and contemporary society. Even today, at this moment, we still have a need to examine the present through a reevaluation of the past.

The fictional-documentary approach, as a genre and dramaturgical directorial concept, is widespread in European theatre scenes but rare in the Macedonian theatre scene.

The fictional-documentary approach offers a completely new approach and a different theatrical experience that evokes strong emotions and confronts oneself, examining one’s own relationship with others and the relationships of others towards us.

It is a rare collective act that is not superficially sentimental or pathetic; on the contrary, it is deeply empathetic and humane. The presence of theatrical spontaneity (in the actor and the audience) leads to liberation and opens up space for different theatrical perspectives.
