{"id":19145,"date":"2020-07-24T14:54:19","date_gmt":"2020-07-24T12:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ulysses.hr\/?p=19145\/"},"modified":"2023-02-18T08:48:08","modified_gmt":"2023-02-18T07:48:08","slug":"james-joyces-room-on-brijuni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ulysses.hr\/en\/james-joyces-room-on-brijuni\/","title":{"rendered":"James Joyce\u2019s Room on Brijuni"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">James Joyce&#8217;s Room on Brijuni is officially opened on July the 27th at 12:00 AM<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium; color: #000000;\"><span lang=\"EN-AU\">According to the original idea of musician Damir Urban,\u00a0 this project is envisioned as an audio-visual experience <a style=\"color: #000000;\">situated<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-AU\"> in a grand room on the ground floor of hotel Karmen on the Island of Veliki Brijuni, which serves as the exhibition space. The original early 1900s d\u00e9cor and aesthetic of the hotel Karmen contributes to the journey upon which the spectators will be taken whilst exploring Joyce\u2019s imaginary room. The space is conceptualised as the room of James Joyce through which the spectators (abiding by relevant health protocols and guidelines) will be able to explore carefully curated artistic compositions (paintings, photographs, maps, videos, audio recordings, and other significant props and artifacts). At designated times, spectators will be able to experience both music and video performances accessible only in Joyce\u2019s room.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-AU\" style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The exhibition space is intended to play both an educational and artistic role by enabling spectators to explore the life of James Joyce, his acclaimed novel Ulysses, and the journey of Ulysses Theatre through music, photographs, books, literary interpretations, news articles and other multimedia compositions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-AU\" style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">The exhibition space is also intended to be a place of discovery; unveiling the discrete ways that artists were inspired and influenced by Joyce\u2019s character and artistry in their own creations. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-AU\" style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Spectators will have the opportunity to take on an active role and participate in the creation and growth of Joyce\u2019s room by leaving artworks of their own, or contributing by documenting their thoughts and experiences during their exploration of Joyce\u2019s room. The intention is to preserve the spectator\u2019s contributions and include them in another iteration of Joyce\u2019s room in the future.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-AU\" style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Films made by Selma Spahi\u0107, Zijah Sokolovi\u0107, Livija Pandur, Nigel Osborne and other artists will be permanent part of this creative space.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-AU\" style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Joyce\u2019s room will officially open with a live performance by Damir Urban, upon which there will be a series of performance pieces by artists such as Nigel Osborne, Zijah Sokolovic, Matija Ferlin etc.\u00a0Creative producer of the project is Tatjana A\u0107imovi\u0107.
