\"\"Rade \u0160erbed\u017eija<\/strong> graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. Still a student, he started to play the leading roles in films and theatre productions. He is remembered as an outstanding Peer Gynt, Don Juan, Georgij, Melkior, Oedipus, Hamlet, Leon, King Lear and Richard III. He has written and published four books of poetry and an autobiography, released six albums, and directed 12 plays (Ballads of Petrica Kerempuh, They Say the Owl Was a Baker\u2019s Daughter, Judith, Croatian Nightingale, Play Beckett…). He has shot more than one hundred films (Red Wheat, Body Scent, Manhunt, Evening Bells, Bravo Maestro, Variola Vera, Una, Burning, Life is Beautiful, Cyclops, The Return, Horvat\u2019s Choice, Dreaming the Rose, Contessa Dora…), and starred in leading roles in several TV series (A Lone Man, In the Registry, Beggars and Sons, The Bombing Process, Nikola Tesla, A Voyage to Vu\u010djak …). He joined Vanessa Redgrave to found a theatre company that produced plays such as Brecht in Exile, Liberation of Skopje, Smoke, Opera Sarajevo and has taken part in many charity and peace initiatives.<\/p>\n

After the worldwide success of Before the Rain by Milcho Manchevski in 1994, where he played the leading role, he was cast in films by some of the world\u2019s most prominent directors (P. Noyce, J. Woo, S. Kubrick, C. Eastwood…), appearing in films such as The Saint, The Truce, The Prague Duet, Broken English, Eyes Wide Shut, Polish Wedding, Stigmata, Mighty Joe Young, The Cruelest Day, Mission Impossible II, Space Cowboys, The Snatch, Fugitive Pieces, Battle in Seattle, The Eye, Quarantine, Shun li and the poet, In the land of blood and honey, and TV series like 24, CSI: Miami, and Downton Abbey.<\/p>\n

He has acted and collaborated with multiple world-renowned actors, including Vanessa Redgrave, Charlize Theron, Elisabeth Shue, John Turturro, Tom Cruise, Glenn Close, Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Morgan Freeman, and Maggie Smith.<\/p>\n

In his long career he has been awarded numerous national and international awards.<\/p>\n

In 2012, he started working at the Department of Acting and Media Studies at the University of Rijeka, where he teaches acting.<\/p>\n

Together with Borislav Vuj\u010di\u0107, he founded Ulysses Theatre and was its artistic director until 2012.<\/p>\n

\"\"Borislav Vuj\u010di\u0107<\/strong> was a prose writer, playwright, poet and dramaturge. He was born in Orah near Vrgorac in 1957, and died in Zagreb in 2005.<\/p>\n

He published a number of poetry, drama and prose pieces – seven novels, four collections of short stories, three poetry collections and two books of plays. Many of his plays were produced in Croatian theatres, while the films “Leaden Communion” and “Dead point” were based on his screenplays. Many of his plays were also broadcast on Croatian radio.<\/p>\n

He has received numerous literary and theatrical awards: his collection of short stories, “A kiss on the forehead of XX. Century” was awarded Best Prose entry in the 1986 Logos contest, his dark comedy “Church Mouse” received the Marin Dr\u017ei\u0107 award in 1991, the film novella “Passion of light” was celebrated at the Jadran film contest in 1993 and that same year he received the Marul Award for his dramatization of Krle\u017eijada.<\/p>\n

TV movie “Leaden Communion” was awarded the Croatian Theatre Award in 1995 and Vuj\u010di\u0107 received the Marin Dr\u017ei\u0107 award for his dark comedy \u201cViper\u2019s rebound\u201d, tragedy “Asfodel” and drama “Revel of ashes” in different years.<\/p>\n

In 2005 he won the first prize in the \u201cVe\u010dernji List\u201d short story contest.<\/p>\n
