Departure from Fazana to Mali Brijun: 19:30H

The Ulysses Theatre’s new project, which will debut on stage on the 18th of July, 2020, is inspired by Joyce’s revered novel of the same name. It is precisely his Ulysses that is our guiding principle which serves to knit together our directors’ various methods and aesthetics. The creators of this year’s theatrical, musical and visual pieces are eminent Croatian and international artists, all of whom have helped enrich the theatre’s scopes, be it in one or in many of the theatre’s past twenty seasons, or have given a significant artistic contribution, or are indispensable friends of the project. The director Lenka Udovički, the artistic director of one of the past year’s projects, is, in collaboration with the dramaturge Željka Udovičić Pleština, this year’s hinge upon which a mosaic of artists will form a unified, artistic whole.

The artistic creators of these individual projects are: Matija Ferlin, Dario Harjaček, I. M. Klif, Patrik Lazić, Paolo Magelli, Ana Miljanić, Nigel Osborne, Livija Pandur, Selma Spahić, Zijah Sokolović, Lenka Udovički, Damir Urban, Borna Vujčić, Rajna Racz and Staša Zurovac.

The Austro-Hungarian naval fortress, just as the island of Mali Brijun upon which it stands, is a thickly layered ambiental stage for this gallery of theatrical creativity. Within the walls of the fortress and around its frame there will be individual stages, centres of attention, in and around which the audience will revolve. Each one of these spaces will have sign-posts, will be connected by brief instructions, as if in a museum, which will indicate the theme at hand and the chapter of the book in question, historical and culturological background information, references and the names of the artists participating.
